Negativity = Unhappiness

While tempting, gossiping takes its toll:  Recent research shows that repeatedly indulging in negative talk will eventually make you feel unhappy and frustrated.

“A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.”  Proverbs 16:28

Follow the Son

In the dark? Follow the Son!

When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” John 8:12

Head Banger

Believing that repeatedly complaining about a problem will make it go away is like believing that repeatedly beating your head against a wall will create a door.

“Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.”  Philippians 2:14-15

Trust in God

When you place your trust in God, it is not necessary to shrink your dreams in order to fit your income.

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”  1 Timothy 6:17

Hand to mouth

Living from hand to mouth isn’t so bad when you remember it’s God’s hand.

“And my God shall supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:19

Timely advice from Elastigirl

by John Fischer

For such a time as this, I offer some advice from “Elastigirl,” the “super” from the animated movie, “The Incredibles.” Bob and Helen Par are superheroes trying to have a normal life, raising a family in the suburbs, when they get sucked back into their superhero stint of saving the world. The children have untested powers they have inherited from their parents DNA that they will need to draw upon in the current crisis. In a moment of truth, Helen (“Elastigirl”) has to leave two of her children to fend for themselves while she goes off to rescue her husband, Bob (“Mr. Incredible”). It’s her speech to the children that got my attention when I saw this fast-moving movie for the second time.

Up until this moment, Helen has been discouraging her kids to play around with their latent powers so that they wouldn’t stick out among the other kids in the neighborhood. In their physical competitions at school, they have to constantly hold back—even lose on purpose now and then, in order to live a “normal” life. This time, she has to reverse that rule.

“But things are different now,” she says to her daughter as she prepares to leave her and their son, Dash, in enemy territory, “and doubt is a luxury we can’t afford any more, Sweetie. You have more power than you realize. Don’t think, and don’t worry. If the time comes, you’ll know what to do. It’s in your blood.”

Actually this sounds strikingly similar to the way Jesus prepared his disciples to go out without him. As followers of Christ, we have more power than we realize. Don’t think too much, or in other words, don’t psyche yourself out with rules and requirements. Step into the situation because you have what it takes; it will come to you when you need it. And remember… “It’s in your blood,” because the Holy Spirit is within you giving you what you need, when you need it. Doubt is simply a luxury we can’t afford any more.

“On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Matthew 10:18-20)

Prayer in troublesome times

A very dear friend lost their employment recently very unexpectedly after they had done a truly excellent job in a very difficult situation. It was unjustified and unfair. But I believe it happened for a reason and that reason will eventually be revealed to them. Please keep them and their family in your prayers asking God to help them keep their faith, trust and hope and focus on HIM as they work through this.

Easter

The most important day of Christianity is coming soon when on Easter Jesus rises from the dead and conquers death and atones for our sins.  What else is there to say?

A “New Awareness” of Eternity

I was watching a minister on TV late last night which I usually don’t do but he said something that caught my attention. I always realized and accepted that Heaven and Hell are for Eternity.  But he said most of us can’t really grasp the concept of Eternity…..without end. It goes on and on and on and on forever………never ending. I have the opportunity to be with Jesus forever and never ending……….or be without Jesus in some painful and/or lonely reality never ending and both conditions will GO ON FOREVER. Thinking in those terms makes me more conscious of the many decisions I make throughout the day where there is a right or wrong choice. I am always aware of the consequences of “the wrong choice” but frankly I don’t think I ever really considered that those consequences will go on forever and never end. I am hoping this new awareness of “eternity” will help me make better choices everyday so I will have the blessing of enjoying the positive consequences of my “right” choices rather than the negative consequences FOREVER.

Precious Gift

Time is a gift so precious that it is only given to us moment by moment.

“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
